Energy Efficiency Tax Credits May Come Back!
Congressional leaders reached a deal late Wednesday that clears the way for a Senate vote on passage of a $109 billion bill to overhaul federal highway and transit programs. One of the amendments attached to the bill reinstates the energy efficiency tax credits that expired in December of 2011. Those tax credits include the $2,000 builder tax credit that incentivizes contractors to build homes that perform at a much higher level of energy efficiency. Another tax credit covers energy efficiency improvements to existing homes so that homeowners can get a financial break when improving their home's efficiency. Every dollar helps, so call your U.S. Senator today and encourage him/her to vote for the Highway Bill(S. 1813)!
